I’m Jonathan Bissoon-Dath, and I’m here to make sure your story doesn’t end with a period, but with a comma—and a brand new chapter.
With close to three decades of California Family Law experience and a reputation for tackling even the toughest family law cases, I’ve built my practice on a simple philosophy: knowledge is power, and compassion is non-negotiable. My clients come to me during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. My mission is to ensure they leave those moments stronger, wiser, and confident about what comes next.

I’m meticulous in my preparation, tireless in my advocacy, and relentless in seeking the best possible outcomes—even in the most challenging cases. Because to me, every case is personal.
Education: A Journey Fueled by Determination
My story starts thousands of miles from California. I was born and raised in Port of Spain, Trinidad, a place of vibrant culture, fiery soccer matches, and the kind of sunshine that leaves you spoiled for life. As a national team soccer player for Trinidad & Tobago, I once believed my future lay on the field. But when an injury forced me to change course, I set my sights on a new goal—one equally demanding but far more enduring: the law.
I crossed the ocean to attend California State University, Fresno, graduating first in my class with a 4.0 GPA. From there, I earned my Juris Doctor from U.C. Davis School of Law (King Hall)—ranked among the top 25 law schools in the country—and followed it up with an MBA from U.C. Davis Graduate School of Management, specializing in marketing and business strategy.
In 1996, I proudly joined the California State Bar, where I’ve been serving clients ever since, with the same tenacity and strategic thinking that once drove me on the soccer field.
Experience: From Silicon Valley Boardrooms to Family Courtrooms
My career hasn’t been a straight path—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
After a brief foray into business consulting, I launched my legal career, focusing on family law and business law. I’ve also negotiated high-tech deals for a major Silicon Valley semiconductor company and managed high-stakes intellectual property litigation worth millions.
But through it all, nothing has matched the fulfillment I’ve found in family law. There’s a profound satisfaction in guiding people through the storm and helping them step into a new day. That’s why, at Nor Cal Divorce Law, we approach every client not just as a case, but as a story waiting to be rewritten.
Beyond the Law: Life, Passion, and Community
When I’m not in court or crafting legal strategies, I’m a dedicated family man, happily spending time with my wife and our four wonderful children. I come from a family of writers—one of whom won a Nobel Prize—so storytelling runs deep in my veins. I’m a published author and an entrepreneur, driven by the belief that creativity and legal acumen can—and should—coexist.
As a former national team soccer player, I still find joy on the pitch, coaching young players, some of whom have gone on to shine in high school, college, the English Premier League, and even the World Cup.
I speak fluent Spanish, serve my community through the Odd Fellows Organization, and am always looking for ways to lend a hand to those who need it most.
And if that weren’t enough to keep me busy, I’m also the Co-founder, President, and CEO of Transmedia Entertainment™, LLC, where I help my wife, Author Jennifer Barrette, develop intellectual property for gaming, film, streaming, publishing, and beyond.
